The main fibre backbone is presently being installed and the company, Yonke installations, have been given two months to complete this project. Once it is all completed, fibre will go live and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) will start marketing their products. The onsite manager is in constant contact with me and will keep me informed the moment the fibre is live and access points to individual home installations can begin. When we get to this stage I will inform everyone and you then have the choice to have FREE INSTALLATION OF THE FIBRE ACCESS POINT IN YOUR HOME.
Having a line installed does not mean you have to use fibre, but if you decide later that you want fibre, the cost of this installation can cost in the region of R2000, so it is advisable to have the line installed while you can get it for free.
Once the fibre is live, you will be able to go on the Openserve website or their app to see what ISPs offer services in our area and make a decision. If you are presently with an ISP, e.g. Geenet, Telkom, etc., there is a chance that you can stay with your existing provider and they can convert you to fibre. Your ISP will no doubt communicate with you as soon as they are able to offer you fibre and what packages are available. HOWEVER, if you are happy with what you are getting and what you are paying, you DO NOT have to change anything.
So, in summary:
- They are offering FREE INSTALLATION of the fibre access point in your home, so it is advisable to accept this.
- Even if they install a fibre access point in your home, YOU DON’T EVER HAVE TO USE IT and can continue with your present internet/Wi-Fi service.
- PACKAGES WILL BE ADVERTISED ONCE FIBRE IS LIVE, so please be patient and see what different ISPs offer you.
- I WILL LET YOU KNOW OF THE NEXT STEP that needs to be followed as soon as I am informed. Until then, please just continue as before. It may be a month or three before we can take the next step.
