		Rehabilitation: Sand/Dune invasion: Kleinemonde Island parking area
Work on clearing the sand from the parking area and around the ablution bock started beginning November. The municipality hired one TLB to start the clearing of the sand, which proved inadequate for the volume of sand to move. To move progress, the committee decided to fund the use of a bulldozer to assist.
Most of the sand has been moved and the installation of the wind nets and revegetation still need to be done. What is concerning is that the first access road to the parking area and boat launching site, after a day of strong east wind, is again covered in sand and needs to be cleared again.
Ticking the boxes
Referring to our previous newsletter, it is pleasing to report the progress:
- Slurry sealing of Beachwood Way has been completed;
- To stop speeding in Fletcher Road, two speed bumps have been built;
- Material for three speed bumps in Dias Road has been received and it is planned to start building this coming week, starting 5 December;
- Awaiting delivery of the material to resurface the Mid Close turning circle;
The road’s team from Port Alfred, with their equipment, will be assisting.
Costing to provide stormwater drainage in River View Crescent is being done;
With the municipality’s limited budget and every community clamouring for a piece of the pie, it takes patience and keeping on knocking on the municipal door to get things done, but as someone said:
“Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet.”
I talk to the trees. . . . .
The Department of Forestry, via the municipality, made trees available at no cost to communities to plant in public open spaces.
We received forty trees which included Wild Olive, Karee, Wild Plum, River Bushwillow and Wild Pear. These have been distributed between Kleinemonde East, Island and Island North.
